CECE works:

CECE is a European network consisting of a Secretariat in Brussels and the National Association offices in the different countries. While the coordinating function is with the Secretariat in Brussels, much of the work of CECE is conducted by staff of the national associations and also industry representatives. The CECE network by this fits to the needs of the political structures of the European Union as well as the necessities of an industry with many small and medium-sized companies in addition to global players.

Main Areas of Activity:

REPRESENTATION

CECE is the acknowledged partner of the institutions of the European Union for all questions related to construction equipment and the construction equipment industry. It represents the views of its member associations and their companies in the legislative and political process. Furthermore CECE co-operates with CEN and ISO, the European and International Committees for standardization.

CECE also maintains contacts with Trade Associations including those representing the distributors and users of construction equipment (ECED, ERA, ORGALIME, FIEC). Links with FEM (the European materials handling association), the engine manufacturers (EUROMOT) and CEMA (the European Committee of Agricultural Machinery) are important to CECE members.

In an international environment CECE represents the European industry in a network of the worldwide associations for the construction equipment industry, especially together with the Associations from China, Japan, Korea and North-America. CECE is also a liaison partner of ISO.

TECHNICAL WORK

The harmonisation of national regulations to remove technical barriers to trade, improve safety standards and the environmental aspects of construction machinery is a central aim of CECE activities.

CECE monitors upcoming European legislation, forms an industry position on the relevant subjects and actively communicates the view of the industry to the European legislators. In the opposite direction CECE initiates legislation and other processes to harmonize the European markets and enable fair competition.

The promotion of international standards and safety regulations in co-operation with ISO and CEN is a major task for CECE, as well as the development of test procedures and nomenclatures.

ECONOMIC MATTERS / STATISTICS

CECE market data has become the leading indicator for the development of European construction equipment markets. CECE organizes a number of European statistics providing up-to-date market data for many types of construction equipment.

Together with the sister associations from Japan, Korea, North - America CECE operates a worldwide statistical system for earthmoving machinery and other types of construction equipment.

In addition CECE regularly informs its members and the interested public about market developments and the economic situation of the industry.

Since 2008 CECE organises a monthly enquiry about the economic climate of the sector called CECE Barometer.

The objective is to obtain a regular business trend indicator of the European construction equipment industry. Besides, CECE will use the summarized results to communicate the general situation of the sector to the public. The target group for the survey involves approximately 150 senior managers of construction equipment companies from the different European countries. Every month the companies taking part in the Barometer receive approx. 18-page report about the economic situation in Europe.

EXHIBITIONS

CECE gives patronage to a limit number of leading global and international exhibitions. The co-operation aims at contributing to successful exhibitions that meet the demands of the construction equipment industry.

By providing information about exhibitions CECE helps smaller manufacturers to identify relevant exhibitions to promote their products in non-European countries.
